Schoolwide Title 1 Reading/Math Compact

2009-2010 School Year

 

            The teachers and staff at all Smyrna School District Elementary Schools view family involvement as a powerful component of an effective literacy program.  Our reading and math programs offer students a wide variety of rich materials that allow for flexibility in use of resources to meet the state, district, and classroom needs. 

            This compact outlines how the entire school staff, parents, and students participating in this year’s activities and programs will share the responsibility for ensuring that all students demonstrate proficient and advanced levels of achievement on the state academic standards.

 

School Responsibilities

Teachers at all Smyrna School District Elementary Schools will strive to provide a supportive and effective learning environment for all students by:

·        providing a high quality curriculum and instruction that meets all state requirements and is presented at each child’s level.

·        establishing expectations for student performance and behavior.

·        informing parents about their child’s behavior.

·        scheduling parent-teacher conferences to discuss their child’s achievement.

·        providing parents with opportunities to attend programs/meetings that promote reading and math success.

Parent/Guardian Responsibilities

All parents can contribute to their child’s success and support their learning by:

·        ensuring that your child maintains regular and punctual attendance.

·        reading daily with your child and making sure homework assignments are completed.

·        promoting positive use of your child’s extra curricular time.

·        staying informed about your child’s education and communicating with the school by promptly reading all notices and responding appropriately.

·        teaching your child responsibility by supporting school rules and procedures.

·        supporting your child’s efforts with praise and encouragement.

Student Responsibilities

Students will share the responsibility to improve their academic achievement and understand that their education is important by:

·        coming to school each day ready to learn.

·        completing all daily classroom assignments.

·        asking for help when needed.

·        returning all homework assignments completed with your best effort.

·        reading at least 15-30 minutes every day outside of school.

·        helping your school to be a safe and happy place to learn by being courteous to others and following the school code of conduct.
