Welcome to Tier II Plus Math!

Mrs. Esther M. Downes

Our Tier II Plus Math Program is an outstanding component of the total educational experience available to the students of the Smyrna School District.  Both Clayton Elementary and Smyrna Elementary again CELEBRATE being recognized as “Superior” schools for the 2009-2010 school year! WOW!  This has been accomplished through the efforts of our children, their parents, their teachers, and a caring, compassionate support staff in each building.

In the Tier II Math Plus Program, Mrs. Downes, Mrs. Murry, Mrs. Campbell, Mrs. Morris, and Mrs. Popovitch work closely with the homeroom teacher to reinforce and supplement the skills and concepts being introduced in the homeroom class.  Our students are provided up to 30 minutes of individual or small group instruction on a daily basis as needed.  This does not replace regular instruction in the classroom, nor is it a special education program.  Hopefully, it is a “revolving door” where children can receive extra help with weaker skills.  Once these skills are mastered, the child no longer receives the services.

Our program also focuses on preparing your child for the DSTP Math Testing.  This year’s testing will be given Wednesday and Thursday, March 10 and 11, 2010.  Have no fear; your children will be READY!!! Please feel free to visit Mrs. Downes in Room 401 at Smyrna Elementary in the mornings, or in Room 16 at Clayton Elementary in the afternoons if you have any concerns or requests.  Please know we appreciate all the support we receive from parents.

I enjoy working with all those in the Smyrna School District, but especially the children at Smyrna Elementary and Clayton Elementary.  We have wonderful children and a compassionate, cohesive staff in both buildings.  The staff in each building is supportive of each other’s ideas and efforts.  Children have always been our first priority.

We anticipate a SUPER year!  Please stop by to see us anytime!
